What are good tactics that should always be used when brawling you opponent? I say patience and it would be a virtue as well. Clearly now i know that edgehogging is not a tactic...i think? or is that edge guarding? lol! lol! afro afro

Watch your opponent and not yourself. If you're any good at all you should know what you're doing without
having to look at your own character.

Space yourself, which is very easy to say, but hard to constantly do. If you don't space well, you're just gonna
be confused the whole match. You should also know what moves your character has, and what situations they're
good for, if you don't know that, then you're just gonna be spamming an obvious move and get raped.

Don't always decide on one exact move, you need to have an escape route if something goes wrong, AND MOST
IMPORTANTLY....... THINK while you're brawling. don't just use moves without thinking, someone will pick you apart.
By this, I mean know what the consequences can be of your missed or failed attacks, and decide on the best option
for the situation. Don't EVER do anything you have not planned out or something you're not thinking of doing, this usually
leads into you getting shield grabbed or running right into the face of a full charged smash. Its also good to know matchup's,
or you wont know a way to fight the opposing character.

Most people think about the last Fsmash or UpB or Spike etc etc that was used on them to take their stock off. DON'T
think like this, what is more important is all the hits that got you into the death range of %. People worry about the
smashes and what not. I read this on a different forum topic, but as Isai once said "Don't get hit" most people shrugged
it off. Well this is important, it literally meant don't get hit, whatever course of action you take, like I said before, you should
know the consequences of it missing or failing, your best options are moves that make it hard for you to get hit.

Strategy is also an important part of tactics, by strategy I mean your over-all game plan, to be aggressive or defensive, etc,
but I won't go too far into this. Just know that strategy and tactics play hand-in-hand with whatever you're trying to accomplish.

and no, you can have a mindset to edgegaurd them whenever possible, but just the act of edgegaurding isnt exactly tactics.
For example, if you were playing Link, who has a horrible recovery, you're mindset would be "hit him off the stage and edge gaurd
for a gimp". While if you played a meta knight or marth, trying to edge gaurd is the stupidest thing you could possibly do, so dont.

Anyways, I kinda overkilled this. It makes me look like a noob to post common brawl knowledge like this, but its always important
for players that want to get better, to know the basics.

As the greatest strategist ever, Sun Tzu said "Strategy without tactics is the longest road to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat"

So yeah

Did you type all of that or just copy and paste some sai?
Anyways, you covered pretty much all of the basics that tadeo was asking for.
So it's not a noob post or anything.

No, I didn't copy/paste, I thought of all that and typed it out.

The reason why I said it might be a noob post, is people that have already learned all these basics find things
like that boring to read, my post was intended at people who want to get better but don't know how.

That also reminds me, after you've gotten to a point where you feel you can't get any better, start breaking
habits you have, and try to learn how to read people better. If you can do this, then you have achieved brawl nirvana.

Spacing is, or good spacing, is always being in range to be able to attack or avoid at will.

For example, with Marth, people use his fair a LOT obviously. Using it to where you can hit them,
while they can't counter attack because you are out of their range or what not is what good spacing is.
So lets say you're playing a D3 (My penguin partner), and the D3 is shielding, while you plan to charge
him with a short hop forward air attack.

BAD SPACING would be using the fair and landing RIGHT IN FRONT OF
the D3, D3 will instantly shield grab the hell out of that.

GOOD SPACING would be using the fair, and
landing behind the D3, or using a fair and quickly jumping away.

The main point to spacing, is keeping yourself away from what your opponent is best at, like Ice Climbers
grabbing, where spacing yourself is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, to winning a match against them.

Example= NOT GETTING GRABBED AT ALL COSTS POSSIBLE
